Psalms #105: 5-7

Remember the wonders he has done,
   his miracles, and the judgments he pronounced,
you his servants, the descendants of Abraham,
   his chosen ones, the children of Jacob.
He is the LORD our God;
   his judgments are in all the earth.

As a follower of Jesus, the source of strength derives from remembering God's wonders done for us.  What were recorded in the bible is actually proved by our own experience.  We have the mutual acknowledgment.  God chose Abraham and blessed him to be Father of Nations (Gen 17:5), we are all children of Abraham, by the grace of Jesus' salvation/redemption.  Not only that, "His judgments are in all the earth" gives the sound comfort and encouragement to those who are in down time, darkness or being unfairly treated.  Vice versa, also a reminder that we have to treat people with His standard, to love one another as His precepts.

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Genesis 15:6 (NIV)
Abram believed the LORD, and he credited it to him as righteousness.
If I want to be a disciple, I shall believe in God. It is not a registration condition to be fulfilled but a right relationship with God by trusting Him. It is what God considers right from his perspective. It is what matter.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Exodus 34:5-7 (NLT)
Then the LORD came down in a cloud and stood there with him; and he called out his own name, Yahweh.  The LORD passed in front of Moses, calling out,
   “Yahweh![b] The LORD!
      The God of compassion and mercy!
   I am slow to anger
      and filled with unfailing love and faithfulness.
   I lavish unfailing love to a thousand generations.[c]
      I forgive iniquity, rebellion, and sin.
   But I do not excuse the guilty.
      I lay the sins of the parents upon their children and grandchildren;
   the entire family is affected—
      even children in the third and fourth generations.”

The Lord revealed himself who He is. His name is “Yahweh” which means compassion and mercy. He kept on elaborate his character. Do I, as his disciple, know Him as what he declared? Do I trust Him the way it should be if I know who He is?

~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
Exodus 4:10-13 (NLT)
But Moses pleaded with the LORD, “O Lord, I’m not very good with words. I never have been, and I’m not now, even though you have spoken to me. I get tongue-tied, and my words get tangled.”
Then the LORD asked Moses, “Who makes a person’s mouth? Who decides whether people speak or do not speak, hear or do not hear, see or do not see? Is it not I, the LORD? Now go! I will be with you as you speak, and I will instruct you in what to say.”
But Moses again pleaded, “Lord, please! Send anyone else.”
Is it a familiar picture?  As a disciple, I know what I have to do and I also know my weakness. There are so many uncontrollable factors existing that make me feeling weak. I lose my confidence!  I forget who my Lord is.
一棵大樹的故事
文:吳思源〈資深心理發展作家,從心會社社長〉
在一個父母成長班,我講了一個故事。
「大樹與男孩是好朋友。大樹陪伴著男孩成長,男孩與大樹分享每天的生活。當男孩漸漸長大,他與大樹見面的時間亦減少了,但每一次見面仍然令大樹十分快樂。男孩畢業後,就與大樹道別,出外發展他的事業。」
「不久,男孩回來告訴大樹他事業上的需要,大樹就將所結的果子給了他。又過了幾年,男孩再次回來。他要結婚,需要一艘出海度蜜月的船隻。大樹就讓男孩將自己樹幹砍伐下來,作為造船的材料。男孩帶著船隻高興地揚帆遠去,留下只剩餘樹頭的大樹。」
「許多年後,男孩又再與大樹見面。此時,大樹已是一位老者。大樹說:『孩子我已經沒有甚麼可以給你!』男孩說:『我老了,只想安靜下來。我可以像從前一樣,坐在你的身上嗎?』大樹欣然答允。」
「從此,大樹快樂地與男孩在一起。」
大樹的確快樂,它不在乎自己得到或失去些甚麼?它只在乎男孩的福祉和需要。它活著是為奉獻,且奉獻到最後的一刻。
原來世上的父母,一生就是做一棵大樹。大樹別無他求,所做的不外是付出自己,供書教學,讓兒女成長。兒女所可以回報父母的,不是令年邁的父母返老還童,而是像兒時一樣,坐到父母的身上。
尤其是父母老了,行動不再自如,甚至大多數時間卧在牀上,他們最期望的就是兒女可以坐到自己身邊,握著他們的手,在耳畔喁喁細語。他們不再需要吃什麼美味的食物,也不能到什麽地方旅遊,這時候有兒女坐在身旁,才最令他們滿足。
聽著這個故事,大家都沉默了良久。
課後分享 (Discipleship – 你話事)
編者序: 你可能認為怎樣「作門徒」理所當然由主耶穌話事,但透過 Norman 以下的分享文章,你或許可以從他的角度領略至少有八樣東西的確由你話事,你找到嗎?
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~

Discipleship –

牧師接著說:「我們今天來禱告祈求上帝降雨,可是整個會堂中,只有她一個人今天帶著雨傘!」大家仔細一看,果然,她的座位旁掛了一把紅色的小雨傘;

One of my duties at work is to develop new methods for the chemical analysis of organic pollutants.  Typically, we have to carry out hundreds of experiments in the lab before the method is ready for beta testing.  The feedbacks I have received from the testing labs can be summarized as follows.
  1. Your new method is so radically different from our 10-year old method.  We will not use it in order to avoid making unnecessary mistakes by using new technology.
  2. We have tried your method for the proposed parameter and are getting reasonable results.  Your method will be used for future studies of this parameter only.
  3. We have tried your method for the proposed parameter and are getting reasonable results.  In addition, we have also found that the new method has potential applications to other parameters/samples of similar nature.

..... when you are being a parent, going through good and bad life experiences, we want to teach these things to my children. Though they might not understand right away, it takes time to remind them, and to help them to understand. And then one day they can meet the expectations of being a parent. For example, parents understand that sleeping late is unhealthy, and when we tell them they might not understand and agree right away. But as we remind them of the positive aspects of sleeping early and getting enough sleep they would soon in the future understand why it is good to sleep early. So we, as a teacher or parent we need lots of patience to watch them grow up, and mature. And as the learner, don’t fear failure, still aim for the goal and that one day you might succeed.

One day, a fresh guy got an idea of trying to use the social media for better communicating with others. Unfortunately, he knows nothing about it.  Therefore, he approaches a passionate angel for help. The angel wriggles her fingers and instantly a new blog is created. Whenever this guy has an idea, it gets transformed into the blog instantly and nicely. Even though it gets tougher and tougher, the angle is able to swallow both the fish and the bear's palm!  It is amazing!  Now, the fresh guy loves to use the blog and continue to build on it...
