Luke
6:12-16 (NIV)
One of those days Jesus went out to a
mountainside to pray, and spent the night praying to God. When morning came, he
called his disciples to him and chose twelve of them, whom he also designated
apostles: Simon (whom he named Peter), his brother Andrew, James, John, Philip,
Bartholomew, Matthew, Thomas, James son of Alphaeus, Simon who was called the
Zealot, Judas son of James, and Judas Iscariot, who became a traitor.
Before
choosing His apostles, Jesus went out to a mountainside to pray, and spent the
night praying to God. From this, we know that praying is very important
in a believer's life, especially when he or she wants to start a missionary.
Luke
14:14-21 (MSG)
"...They won't be able to return the favor, but the favor will be returned—oh, how it will be returned!—at the resurrection of God's people."
That triggered a response from one of the guests: "How fortunate the one who gets to eat dinner in God's kingdom!"
"...They won't be able to return the favor, but the favor will be returned—oh, how it will be returned!—at the resurrection of God's people."
That triggered a response from one of the guests: "How fortunate the one who gets to eat dinner in God's kingdom!"
Jesus followed up. "Yes. For there was
once a man who threw a great dinner party and invited many. When it was time
for dinner, he sent out his servant to the invited guests, saying, 'Come on in;
the food's on the table.'
"Then they all began to beg off, one
after another making excuses. The first said, 'I bought a piece of property and
need to look it over. Send my regrets.'
"Another said, 'I just bought five teams
of oxen, and I really need to check them out. Send my regrets.'
"And yet another said, 'I just got
married and need to get home to my wife.' "The servant went back and told
the master what had happened. He was outraged and told the servant, 'Quickly,
get out into the city streets and alleys. Collect all who look like they need a
square meal, all the misfits and homeless and wretched you can lay your hands
on, and bring them here.'
From
these verses, we can understand that Jesus and His twelve apostles spread the
gospels, and they face the devil's obstacles. As Jesus' followers, we need to
pay attention on the devil's temptation & obstacles.
Luke
22:39-46 (NIV)
Jesus went out as usual to the Mount of
Olives, and his disciples followed him. On reaching the place, he said to them,
“Pray that you will not fall into temptation.” He withdrew about a stone’s
throw beyond them, knelt down and prayed, “Father, if you are willing, take
this cup from me; yet not my will, but yours be done.” An angel from heaven
appeared to him and strengthened him. And being in anguish, he prayed more
earnestly, and his sweat was like drops of blood falling to the ground.
When he rose from prayer and went back to the
disciples, he found them asleep, exhausted from sorrow. “Why are you sleeping?”
he asked them. “Get up and pray so that you will not fall into temptation.”
Jesus
said to His apostles, "Pray that you will not fall into
temptation." Jesus' warning is very important for us. It
is because nowadays, we live in the world that is full of temptation. As
Christians, we cannot overcome them by ourselves alone. We need to pray
to God who can give us wisdom to over-ride them.

John 13: 34-35
A new command I give you: Love one
another. As I have loved you, so
you must love one another. By this all men will know that you are my disciples,
if you love one another.
Rev. Dr.
Wilson Wong mentioned in his article that the beauty of a church is that
everyone cares about each other and loves one another. I agree with him totally. Even though we don't have the best
facilities and resources in HCEFC, I have found friends and I cherish every moment
in the church.

Mark 10:13-15
People were bringing little children to Jesus for him to place his hands on them, but the disciples rebuked them. When Jesus saw this, he was indignant. He said to them, “Let the little children come to me, and do not hinder them, for the kingdom of God belongs to such as these. Truly I tell you, anyone who will not receive the kingdom of God like a little child will never enter it.” And he took the children in his arms, placed his hands on them and blessed them.
When we follow God and commit our lives to
Christ, our thoughts must be simple, faithful and straightforward without
constant questioning. We should only be imitators of Christ, like a
child who imitates his parents. Although we sometimes don't understand
the will of God, we must have childlike trust. Jesus said the kingdom of
heaven belongs to those who are like children.
